PhD Workshop
In the run-up to the Sport & Sustainability conference, the Institute of Sport Science at the University of Bern, in cooperation with the think tank sportainable, the Sports Economics Working Group and the dvs Section for Sports Sociology, is organising a PhD workshop on 7 and 8 April 2026.
The workshop is open to sports scientists from the dvs sections and the think tank sportainable. Sports scientists who are interested in the conference topic are also welcome to attend. The workshop is primarily aimed at doctoral students who are working on a thesis and are looking for interdisciplinary and intradisciplinary exchange with other doctoral students and experienced mentors.
Participation in the workshop is also possible without presenting your own work. Participants who do not (yet) have their own research topic can benefit from the work of others.
Programme
The academic programme includes parallel sessions and keynote speeches. In the parallel sessions, doctoral students present their theses in small groups organised by topic and receive advice from other doctoral students and mentors. The keynote speeches cover topics relevant to doctoral students in the field of sports science research.
In addition to the programme content, there will be plenty of time for informal exchanges during coffee breaks, social and sporting activities, and a joint dinner.
Registration
The workshop has a capacity for approximately 25 participants (registrations with presentations in the workshop will be given priority). Registration takes place via ConfTool as part of the conference registration process. Registration only becomes binding once the conference registration has been confirmed by the organisers.
Registrations will be accepted until the early bird registration deadline for the conference (15 February 2026). After this date, all registered participants will be contacted and further information will be provided and requested.
Participation in the workshop is free of charge for conference participants.
All participants have the option of staying at the Bern Youth Hostel (in rooms for 2 or 4 people). The cost is CHF 88 per night (double room) or CHF 70 per night (quadruple room), excluding the tourist tax (CHF 3.30). Contingents are reserved until January 23rd, 2026. More information is available on the conference website.
