Call for Abstracts
The programme will consist of invited keynotes and symposia, short presentations, poster sessions and thematic workshops. In addition, a science slam is planned.
We invite researchers of the three organising communities as well as from various (sport) science disciplines and other fields to submit a contribution addressing one or more of the three perspectives of sustainable development (ecology, society and economy) and/or the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and present and discuss it in depth at the conference.
We also welcome abstracts on topics not dealing directly with sustainability in sport.
Furthermore, we strive to develop networks amongst actors, organisations and institutions from different fields of sport.
Forms of contribution
We have planned the following sessions:
- Workshops
- Short presentations (in oral sessions)
- Poster sessions with short presentations
- Science Slam (sponsored by sportainable)
Types of abstracts
Workshops
Each workshop consists of thematically related contributions that are connected to one or more of the three dimensions on the conference theme Sport and Sustainability. Each session aims to include contributions from various institutions. Explicit reference to the practice of sport and the involvement of partners is desired.
Each workshop lasts 60 minutes and includes three or four presentations.
Please submit the following:
- Name of the chair with institutional affiliation
- Title of the workshop
- Abstract explaining the overarching theme or the joint research question and the individual contributions (max. 200 words)
For each individual contribution:
- Name(s) of the author(s) with institutional affiliation
- Title of the individual contribution
- Abstract (up to 500 words, including references)
Short presentations in oral sessions
Oral sessions are based on individually submitted contributions on any subject. The individual contributions (10 min. talk and 5 min. discussion) are thematically grouped by the local programme committee and organised into coherent oral sessions as far as possible. The local programme committee reserves the right to assign contributions submitted to this format to the poster and short presentation session.
Please submit the following:
- Name(s) of the author(s) with institutional affiliation
- Title of the individual contribution
- Abstract (up to 500 words, including references)
Poster Sessions with short presentations
These consist of several contributions and include a short presentation of maximum three minutes and subsequent discussion at the poster. The local programme committee will combine individual contributions into poster sessions that are as thematically coherent as possible.
Please submit the following:
- Name(s) of the author(s) with institutional affiliation
- Title of the individual contribution
- Abstract (up to 500 words, including references)
Science Slam (sponsored by sportainable)
The Science Slam format offers the opportunity to present current research work in a clear, concise and entertaining way in a short presentation.
Applicants who would like to present their research work in the context of the three perspectives of sustainable development (ecology, society and economy) as part of the Science Slam should indicate this when submitting their abstract for a short presentation or poster.
The first author presenting at the Science Slam must have completed their doctorate no more than one year prior to the conference.
Members of the Scientific Committee will select the participants for the Science Slam from the applications received. The best short presentations at the Science Slam will receive awards (sponsored by sportainable).
All Science Slam applicants who are not selected for the “final round” can present their research work in an oral or poster session.
Review
The Scientific Committee is responsible for reviewing the abstracts in a peer review process and deciding on acceptance.
Submission and Languages
Contributions can be submitted until 2025-12-15 in English or German via Conftool. Abstracts are entered online via a submission mask. Please note the maximum word limit. Feedback on the acceptance or rejection of your contribution will be provided at the beginning of February 2026. All accepted contributions will be published in a Book of Abstracts.
Conference languages are English and German. Due to the international nature of the conference, it is recommended that presentations be given in English.
