Abstract
Society faces numerous significant challenges, including climate change and biodiversity loss, and there is an urgent need for societal transformation towards more sustainable practices. The role of science so far has been to provide data and facts following scientific principles. Yet, some observers call for more engaged science through, e.g., transdisciplinary approaches. The presentation will illustrate how universities can support and strengthen transdisciplinary research approaches, highlighting the pitfalls and hurdles associated with this approach.
